About

Fredrika Gullfot

Born in 1967 in Bern, Switzerland.

It feels preposterous to call myself a composer. I explore various kinds of sonic materials to extract musical meaning. I am mainly driven by curiosity, and a fundamental instinct to see structure and patterns in seemingly random complexity and vastness.

I am excited about existential interfaces, life, time. My role is to explore and interpret. And sometimes just crying out loud.

My educational background reflects my curiosity and desire to go deep. I have a diploma in Assyriology, Classical Archaeology and Comparative Religion from Uppsala University, and studied Mathematics and Computer Science at Stockholm University. I have a PhD in Biotechnology from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. I have studied Music and Sound Design at Dalarna University including a MA in Audiovisual Studies, and Electroacoustic Music at EMS in Stockholm.

My musical pedigree runs five generations deep, with roots from folk music to classical opera. The story has it I was kicking around to Stravinsky’s Firebird while still in my mother’s belly. She recently found some scores I had written as a preschooler. So I am back where I came from.
